Autumn Is Upon Us

The time has come to light the fire and cosy up on the sofa as the nights draw in and the balmy summer days become a distant memory. Autumn is officially here.

A significant change in the season as nature puts on a magnificent final display before retreating for a well-deserved rest over the winter months. The estate becomes alight with vibrant shades of copper, rusty reds and golds.

It’s time to don the hat and gloves and explore the estate along with the beautiful surrounding countryside in the crisp autumnal breeze.

Witness the transformation that this seasonal change brings. The sunlight dips low in the sky, dancing through ever-changing leaves as a copper hue gradually forms in the woodland canopies. Leaves crunch beneath footsteps on the forest floor while hunting for autumn’s treasures. The deep mahogany seeds peeking out from inside their spiky green shells… “anyone for conkers?”. These conkers once weighing heavily on the branches of our mighty Horse Chestnut trees have now fallen prey to Mother Nature.

Exploring the banks of this great Scottish river, the Tweed is teaming with activity as the fishermen and women make the most of the final few weeks of this year’s fishing season. After a dry and slower summer, the change in season has brought a rise in water levels prompting a fresh flurry of activity on the river. Many visitors have been lucky enough to create wonderful memories of catching salmon, some their first on the Milne Graden beat this year, with record-breaking numbers in September and October.

Adventures led by the noses of furry friends along the many trails, weaving their way around the estate. The brisk autumn weather is perfect for a quick whirl around the Tails of the Tweed dog park located in the former walled garden – carpets of dormant wildflower verges provide the perfect winter shelter for insects.

Escape the refreshing autumnal air and retreat to the warmth of one of our eight holiday cottages. A welcome greeting from the fire’s crackle, and a warm glow from the decorative lamps in the sitting room. Cosy on down and wrap up in one of our newly designed soft tartan blankets and enjoy the latest edition of the Milne Graden Press, or simply get lost in your favourite movie and enjoy a perfectly lazy autumn afternoon.
